Multiple Instances of MPlayer?

I'm using MPlayer (recent version, not sure of the exact version number cuz I don't have my linux computer with me) with debian sarge, and I'm wondering if it's possible to run multiple instances of it or if there's a way to make it switch from a movie that's playing to a new movie i selected. to make that more clear...say i'm browsing through my files in my file manager (I've been using Xfe but am probably gonna try something else out soon) and i double-click on a movie file, Mplayer starts up and plays the movie...now while the movie is playing i decide i want to watch a different movie, so i double-click on the new one. At this point, Mplayer has been trying to start another instance of itself and then giving an error having to do with not finding a video out or something like that (sorry i don't have the right error, I'll try to get it later). I'm guessing because the instance that is running is using a resource that the new instance is trying to access and not being able to.

ideally i'd like it to stop playing the video it is currently playing and start playing the new one when i do this, (all in the same instance of Mplayer) is there a way to make that happen?

and off topic from this cuz I just thought of it...is there a way to do away with borders and title bar for aterm in fluxbox?

Not only is there a button labled "Playlist" Right on the mplayer controls. But its also the 6th item down in the on screen menu...

I'm not particularly enamored to MPlayers playlist..maybe i just don't know how to use it correctly but there doesn't seem to be a way to actually leave the playlist open so i can jump to whatever file i want in any order...instead, it just closes the window and starts playing them in order and I haven't found a keyboard shortcut that automatically jumps to the next file (could be i just haven't looked)

but even so...i don't really want to have to load everything into a playlist...what if the other file i want is in a completely different place and i didn't originally add it to the playlist?

i don't really see why MPlayer can't stop playing the movie it is playing and start the new one i selected, it's kind of a pain in the ass if it can't do that
