Multiple Images -> MPEG file

I have a bunch of images that were outputted from Maya, how would I combine them into a compressed/uncompressed video file? I'm sure there's a simple app that would do this for me.

I believe that you want to look at the 'mencoder' program. You can produce mpegs from stills.

If you google around for it, you should come up with a simple script to do it. Are the pictures numbered like:
pic.001.jpg pic.002.jpg or something similar?
