multiple distro installation
Hi All
I am trying to intall multiple distros on an external drive. This drive has no windows installed and I want it solely for Linux use. When installing the distros from live disks, each time it comes to selecting the partition to install to, I am asked for a mount point. I have used \ in the first installation but this cannot be used again. I think my problem may be partitioning but cannot figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. Jim |
You need to create a partition for every distro you want to install,
and install every distro on his own partition. You can use gparted to create them. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ You could however use a virtual machine, to run as many distro's as you want in 1 distro. http://www.virtualbox.org/ Kind regards |
Hi Repo
Thanks for the quick reply. I am using a separate partition for each distro. sdb5 to 9 at 12 gig each plus sdb10 as a 4 gig swap partition. I installed pinguy linux on sda5 with mount point \ but when I try to install pclinuxos on sd6 it asks for a mount point and since there is a partition with \ already, I cannot use it. Jim |
Since it's a different partition, and a different distro, you can use / for every distro you install.
Kind regards |
Each distro can use the same swap partition.
