Multicore Programming Books

Hi Folks,

Would someone please recommend a book which would help me understand multicore programming thinking, issues & constructs? Is there any such book? Say in C, C++, or Java. Tried searching Amazon but wasn't sure of the hits I encountered. Thanks.

The problem of handling multi-core CPUs is a kernel problem. So descriptions of the problem and the various possible solutions will be found in books about the kernel.

Application programs can multi-thread. How much an application uses multi-threading, if at all, depends on the design logic of the application and has nothing to do with what hardware it happens to be running on. A well written application starts as many independent threads as the application program logic can comfortably handle. The kernel handles the problem of scheduling all of the threads created by all of the applications and should do so using as many available processors as possible.
