Multibooting: Can I share one Firefox and one Thunderbird among several Linux distros

I am multibooting and I have decided that it would be nice to be able to use one Thunderbird and one Firefox, probably one Picasa for all of the distros so that I don't have to keep messing around with firefox extensions and cusomizations. Do you think that this is reasonable and fairly easily done?

How can I do it?

How can I preserve the FF and Tbird through distro upgrading and updating?

Thanks,

B

Add them to your package manager's "don't upgrade" list. Every package manager should have one.. Then use one storeplace for the programs' configurations that they all access from every distribution.

Thanks for the reply.

Could you flesh that out just a little for me. I am not new, but I have a LOT to learn.

1. Where would you suggest to put FF and TBird, Picasa for a setup like this ? Do I just make a ext3 partition ? What parts of the apps should go in there ?

2. Is there any trick to making the menu/shortcuts link to this single application from all of the distros ?

3. I also wanted to give PCBSD a try. I wonder if I could use the same apps with it.

4. I have windows XP. Are the FF and TBird completely different or could I even have Windows, Linux and PCBSD share the same application or at least config files ?

Thanks,

B.
