get mandrake's rpms for openssl and install them. i'm not sure if you used a gaim install binary or not, but if you compiled from source and installed that way, if i remember correctly, you may need to recompile with the path to your openssl source files and reinstall gaim. if you want something easier just for msn, i'd suggest amsn which implemented more of msn's features than gaim did. it's just an untar and run and it should download some tls file for the ssl connection on first run.
