yeah, use gaim instead, it's much better. and if you're having troubel with source installing, just use rpm's for now... assuming you're using an rpm based distro that is...

and i hope you can appreciate that your question is pretty useless... you have given absolutely no actaull information. simply saying "it doesn't work" is not going to get your problem solved. there could be a million reasons for it.

Whenever you are installing from source, it's a good Idea to read the README's and INSTALLS... do that and you might find out why you don't have a make script.

Sometimes you need to copy the one for your system from a list to the Makefile.... again, just read the doc's.

ps- I agree... gaim works great.

Up until recently, I would have argued with Chris, but I have now got the (2002-10-20) CVS version installed and it is damn good! There are some particular thing that you may misw if you have used EB before now, but I would suggest GAIM for everyone!

Anyway, if you're getting errors, what are they?

Have you tried AMSN its what i use. It only gives MSN support, no other messaging services are supported. But it works a treat. You just need the tcl libraries on your machine. You can get it from freshmeat.
Just untar the file, and run the amsn file. very easy to get going.
