Ill be first explaining the scenario. Then ill be asking the question.

I made a squid server authenticate the users to an MS Active Directory.

But now, because of the number of connections that the AD has to serve, it sometimes refuses certain services.

Question:

I was wondering, can I replicate the user and password information in MS AD into a linux database, so that ill point the squid server towards the linux user database and the users can use their MS AD usernames/password to authenticate themselves?

What are you using inside of squid to accomplish this? Have you tried to alter the squid parameters to try to slow down the rate (number) or concurrency of connects?

Im using msnt_auth as the helper program.

Although I havent used anything to slow down the rate of concurrent requests from squid, what I fail to understand is what would be the purpose of slowing down the requests.

I'm not totally sure. But it could be that you are exceeding the maximum sessions allowed for your licensing. In a Windows world also, there's a lot of caching going on. But... I too am a bit bewildered by what is happening (??).

yes...i turned down some licensing issue with the windows server 2003 AD. Lets hope i don't get any complaints to days...

but is there a way wherein i can replicate the AD schema (all user details) into some other LDAP on linux
