mplayer won't full screen with x11 outpout, garbage output at xv

Can anyone help? Am I missing any library here? I am using an Asus P4VP-MX motherboard with S3 Savage chipset onboard video. I experienced this before, and reinstalled linux, amazingly, it worked without any problem. Due to other reasons, I had to reinstall my linux, and once again, I have this dilemna wherein mplayer won't full screen. I don't want to reinstall. Even if I did, I may have just gotten lucky last time when I reinstalled and got playback on full screen. Which repository I got the mplayer from I forgot already. It's either DAG or LIVNA. I used to install mplayer on this same board before, and all the time, i'm getting full screen. it's only lately when I reinstalled that I don't get it.

Might have something to do with the other packages I'm installing onto this system. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

BTW, Ogle gives garbage output with x11, and none with xv.

You can change the default full-screen/non-full-screen option in the ~/.mplayer/config file; see the documentation for more details. Or you can switch between full-screen and windowed using the f key.

Sorry, I mean when I press full screen, the video doesn't resize to fill up the screen, instead, it stays in the middle with the original size and a big black border fills the screen.
