MPlayer unable to find appropriate audio codec for avi file

XMMS can play .mp3 and .ogg files just fine, so I'm not exactly sure what other audio codecs I need, or where I can find them. I downloaded the all codec binaries from the mplayer website, and still nothing. Here's the error I receive:

- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your

It only happens with these files (DVD-rip of Stargate Season 2), and they work fine for the friend who ripped them for me. I'm not exactly sure what to do, so any help would be appreciated.

where does it say it's unable to find a codec... it's clearly crashing on the file... you have there in the message a number of steps to take, i'd suggest you did them.
