Mplayer truncates files on Ubuntu

I have a 13.2 second file (click track) that I need to play in an endless loop. Unfortunately, mplayer truncates it to 13.0. This happens with the file in both wav and mp3, on 2 different computers, with 2 different versions of Ubuntu.
I found an earlier post from someone with the same problem, so this isn't unique. Is there a solution? If not, is there another console program that will work?

I didn't see a looping option in mpg321's manpage, but if there is only one wav or mp3 file, the --random option may do it. It will randomly pick only file in the argument list.
