I am brand-new to the linux world and trying desperately to get my system functioning properly.
I installed Synaptic (with APT), then installed Mplayer and gxine. After install the programs worked fine.
But once i restarted the system, they no longer responded at all. I click on the respective icon in the program menu, and nothing happens. My screen just looks back at me.
What happened? What do i do?
Please help a recovering Windows-user. Thanks.
Ps. I am running:
Fedora Core release 1 (Yarrow)
Linux 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl
What happens if you open up a terminal and type gmplayer? And try running xine by hand also. If these run, then your icons are just wrong. If they don't, what does it say?
Have you recently upgraded anytthing on your system, if so what. GTK is a toolkit responsible for running GNOME/GTK apps and GLIB works in conjunction with GTK. The applications you say are not running properly are GNOME/GTK apps.
