mplayer streaming video quiet

When I use mplayer to watch streaming video the sound is very low. I have to turn up my main volume all the way to hear it. Is their a way to make it louder?

Heres a dumb question. Did you turn up the volume in mplayer on the control panel?

I tried to push the normal button "*" for increased volume, it did not work. "Control panel", I am not quite sure what you mean.
