MPlayer Streaming Video

OK, I have searched for this, but have not found what I want. I am using Mplayer to watch video clips etc on the internet with mplayerplugin for mozilla. Unfortunately, I cannot get it to play rtsp feeds from within mozilla. If I use a command such as:
mplayer rtsp://whatever
then that's fine, but since most webpages just have a .ram or .rm file pointing to the rtsp feed, and the mozilla plugin doesn't handle this. Can anyone help?
