MPlayer RPM's are messed up in the core!

I downloaded everly last RPM of MPlayer-0.90-1! When I try to install Mplayer-0.90-1, it says it needs the Mplayer-0.90-1Common RPM. The Mplayer-0.90-1Common RPM says it needs the the Mplayer-0.90-1 RPM to install. WTF? Am i missin something here?

yes

you have to install them in a string

rpm -ivh common file then space then mplayer file space then the default skin

then hit enter and it will go

OHHHH...the linux newbie (that's ME) has learnt something new today. I LOVE LINUX! I've always wanted to use it but never got the chance till about a month ago!

VIP3R,

I tried the MPlayer rpms and had problems. I just gave up on the MPlayer rpms so I just installed via cvs. You can also download tar file from the mplayer homepage. Just remember to configure with the gui option: ./configure --enable-gui
Make sure you have the right plugins installed before configuring. The MPlayer website has documentation that tells you what plugins you need.

oh yeah...i've installed it before via CVS but all i got was a window that opened when you pass a movie to it, but there's not stop, play, or pause button or any other option but a movie playing.

There are those options, you use the keys. Its all in the man page (or just type mplayer -help and the last thing it will print is the key's to control movies with). And, of course, you can bind your own keys to do nifty stuff:

Quote:

Basic keys: (complete list in the man page, also check input.conf)
<- or -> seek backward/forward 10 seconds
up or down seek backward/forward 1 minute
pgup or pgdown seek backward/forward 10 minutes
< or > step backward/forward in playlist
p or SPACE pause movie (press any key to continue)
q or ESC stop playing and quit program
+ or - adjust audio delay by +/- 0.1 second
o cycle OSD mode: none / seekbar / seekbar+timer
* or / increase or decrease PCM volume
z or x adjust subtitle delay by +/- 0.1 second
r or t adjust subtitle position up/down, also see -vop expand

* * * SEE THE MAN PAGE FOR DETAILS, FURTHER (ADVANCED) OPTIONS AND KEYS * * *

what happend to simple GUI? I dont wanan play a movie by pressing --> or P or dsafsaljfdl. That's pretty gay if you ask me. I don't want something amazin but a simple button and slider would be nice :S!

webtoe 06-04-2003 06:41 AM

you in linux now, GUIs are for wimps..... :p

MadNewbie 06-04-2003 06:42 AM

GUI

If you installed mplayer with gui start the program with gmplayer.

Be sure that you have a defaultskin though when you start up, if you dont just download a skin from the mplayer homepage, change the name of the skin to default and put it in ~/.mplayer/Skin/

It's pretty easy to install from source - the install instructions for setting up different plugins are a bit all over the place and have you jumping around a bit for the info but if works fine.
