MPLAYER question

[Redhat 8.0 + P4 + ATI Radeon 8500]

I downloaded, compiled and installed mplayer => everything went ok.

When I run an AVI (DivX) w/ the command "mplayer my_video.avi", I don't get the movie to the screen (no output) but I hear the sound. (I installed DivX drivers )

Thanks for help

Ioan

Look in your "Module" section and see if you've got 'v4l'.

post the output of mplayer. if you've compiled it without the XFree86-devel package (if you're using rpms) then it won't detect that it can use the decent video outputs. when you reconfigure it, check that X11 and XV outputs have a yes next to them.

I downloaded the sources (.gz not rpms) and compiled them.

Is that anything to configure before compiling ? If yes, where ?

Thanks !

i mean at ./configure stage ytou can see what is going to be enabled, firstly at each yes/no in the list and also in the summary at the end. if you've not got the xfree86 developemnt headers installed then you'll not have access to the normal video outputs, so just install the packages correctly, and ./configure mplayer again and you should get a few more yes's. but still.. post the output here, and hopefully it'll confirm what i'm suggesting
