Question MPlayer problems

I installed Mplayer on my RH7 box, running 2.4.22 and I get the following errors:

On startup, I get: CANNOT GENERATE TABLES.

When trying to open a clip, I get:

ERROR OPENING/INITIALIZING THE SELECTED VIDEO_OUT (-VO) DEVICE.

I have tried changing the vo setings in the .conf file but with no joy, any ideas?

Thanks...

try specifying -vo by the commandline.

mplayer -vo help
mplayer -vo foo bar.mpg (to play using a specific driver)

will list all the available video out drivers. go through them until you get one that loads.
If you've got 3d graphics set up on your box, i would highly recommend the gl or gl2 driver.

ALso in the properties you can change the driver and the codecs but I am not sure if this is a codec issue.
I found that the windows codecs work great and I have not had a problem playing anything.

Ditched the RPM's, updated XFree86 and installed from source...

Sorted!

Still working out how to get it working on RH7 though...

I've been using it on SuSE8.2 and I like it A LOT.

That was one of my serious concerns, finding something that would equal or improve on Outlook.
