MPlayer playback problem with matroska
 

Hello.

I'm having a small problem trying to run matroska (.mkv) files on MPlayer. Avi files and other basic files work fine, but matroska is causing me problems. Here is what it says in terminal if I try to open a matroska file:

Cache fill: 0.00% (0 bytes) TiVo file format detected.
MPEG: No audio stream found -> no sound.
MPEG: FATAL: EOF while searching for sequence header.
Video: Cannot read properties.

Trying to force audio codec driver family libvorbis ...
Cannot find codec for audio format 0x0.

Audio: no sound
Video: no video

Which is a bit weird. I've tried to look around the web if anyone has had similar problems and didn't find anything. So sorry if I'm asking a FAQ, but I tried looking everywhere.

I'm running CollegeLinux 2.5, and my MPlayer version is MPlayer 1.0pre2-3.2.3 which Dropline Gnome automaticly installed I believe. And umm from the gmplayer preferences codec page I have selected Win32/VfW video codecs for video and Ogg/Vorbis audio decoder for audio. Video driver in mplayer that I use is x11. very little we can really say to be honest, is it not detecting the wrong container format? i know nothing about matroska so couldn't say really. upgrade to pre3 anyway, which would also be good so you know you have the FULL version, and not some distro specific hack which might be causing this. if you still can't get anywhere, the best place to check would be the mplayer-users email list and archive.
