mplayer: picture does not scale
I have installed mplayer. A prebuilt package to ubuntu. I then installed the codecs manually. But when playing a video, the picture does not scale. It is in a little box (most likely the video resolution). If I play with fullscreen-option it is the same. Anyone know what this is about?

i assume you are using a less than ideal video output, i.e. x11. use xv instead if you can and you'll get scaling video and over 50% less cpu usage. you can add the -zoom option if you can only use x11, but it's a sucky video output, so use xv if you can.

thanks. it works perfect with xv.

Ahh c'mon this is 6 years old! I think that's a record for a reply of mine.
-vo xv but mplayer has changed a LOT in this time... it quite possibly isn't your solution anymore. |
Thank you for your post, have found fix on debian forum,
typing xvinfo gave no adaptors present on screen #0 sudo apt-get install firmware-linux* and a reboot cured problem. Hope this helps anybody else having this problem. Using debian tesing xfce. Thanks Davetesc |
