Mplayer- no video output!?!?! help!!!!!!!

I installed Mplayer and followed all the directions correctly from ubuntu guide.org

I had no installation errors, and when I went to play a video from comedycentral.com it appeared to work, since the sound was streaming, but I had no video!

where the video should have been.

I have absolutely NO CLUE as to what's wrong with it!!! can anyone help me please? The same thing happened on my desktop as well as my laptop so there must be a universal problem with it.

please show us the full mplayer output, and provide suitable details about the environment you are using it in.

I'm not sure what you mean by showing the entire mplayer output...?

but I'm using kubuntu 5.04..

and i use firefox for my browser
