MPlayer Installation->libmp3lame.so.0 error

I try to install MPlayer and get the following error:

[root@localhost archives]# rpm -ivh mplayer-1.0pre6-1.i386.rpm
warning: mplayer-1.0pre6-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 16a61572
error: Failed dependencies:
libmp3lame.so.0 is needed by mplayer-1.0pre6-1.i386
Can anyone direct me how to solve this problem? Thanks alot, you are dealing with a newbie.

To add

just to add Im using Fedora Core 3 and when I run ldconfig I get this following error:
[root@localhost vlcstuff]# ldconfig
ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwiretap.so is truncated

ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwiretap.so.0 is truncated

ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwiretap.so.0.0.1 is truncated

I dont have a clue what to do. Too bad though, because I had MPlayer for slackware and it worked well...

install lame. I don't know your distro, so i cannot post you a link to download the suitable rpm, but try the place from were you downloaded the mplayer rpm. Personally i always compile mplayer by myself. Programs like mplayer work better if they are optimized for your system.

An mplayer guide for fedora:http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mplayer-fedora.shtml

P.S. going from slackware to fedora is definitely a step back :)

kerryblue19 03-03-2005 08:58 PM

how did this library get truncated. I thing this library is in ethereal package(using google i came to this)
do "rpm -qa |grep etherial". Uninstall and install the printed packages again.

In the site you posted, in the bottom of the page there are the required programs.
You can compile them from source, or search for a i686 rpm version.
The i586 version they have there will also work.

i tried that, but some of those files could not b installed, some libs were missing.
anyway i quited trying with rpms, i used the CVS original version, then -> make -> make install
and its all working :D

have you installed the codecs and the gui?
You cannot do this after you compile it. Also there is a nice program called checkinstall.
You do it instead of make install, and it monitors the instalation and creates/installs an rpm out of make install. This way you can uninstall a program, compiled from source, without having to keep the source.
