Mplayer help - WMA files

I used apt-get to download the debian version of Mplayer, and everything works fine (that I've tried) except that WMA files don't play properly. When I try to play one, there is a few seconds pause, then the entire 4 minute track goes by in less than a second, producing nothing more than a silly noise.

Ideas anyone?

ukch,

Did you install the win32 plugins before you installed mplayer? See the mplayer documentation. Maybe that will help. You can also try to compile it on your system. After you run ./configure, the screen will have some useful output on what you have installed. There is also a config.log file that is helpful. This is the site I used to install mplayer:

No, I didn't. How do I do that?

I'd rather not compile it myself, especially seeing as it all seems to be working apart from that one bit...
