mplayer help

When I play any kind of sound file with RedHat 9, through my browser, using mplayer, the file only plays for a second or two nad then stops. I get some that play longer but none of them play the whole file.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Redbone981sl

No message in the terminal. Also these are mp3 sound files downloaded from the net so I don't know if the problem is with mplayer or the download was cut short. but this happens with all downloaded sound files no matter what type.
Thanks for any help u can provide

well break it into stages... first GET the file locally using wget (browse the source code or whatever you need to do) , then play it back with mplayer from a console.
