mplayer fullscreen plays like slow motion but shouldnt?
 

hey

i got a voodoo 3 video card and am trying to play videos with mplayer fullscreen but when in fullscreen or even bigger then real small it goes like slow motion the sound is way off its not whatchable,

ive tried differeint -vo xv -vo x11 etc.. drivers ive tried like them all either it wont go fullscreen (it will be black around all the edges) or it will go fullscreen but be slow motion,

now i know i dont got the best video card ;P but on windows it plays videos just fine fullscreen so its capable of such and im wondering what i can do to get it to do the same with mplayer if possible, any ideas?

well, you can try "mplayer -vo x11 -zoom filename", this will make real fullscreen (without the black borders). Try it out.

yeah i know but like i said ive tried basically them all and i can get it to fullscreen but the problem is its slow motion, thanks though

Have you downloaded the codecs from mplayer's webpage?

yes i got the codecs though if i didnt it wouldnt be able to play the video not play slowly only when fullscreen..

nobody else has any ideas? whoa im shocked ;0

Well, in this case, maybe you have to tweak the kernel in order to get the propper voodoo modules to run...Otherwise, i don't know what the hell is going on there :(

I've read that forum, cuz I had the same problem.
After my first install,all worked fine, I didn't have the slow motion, and I had the full screen.

But then I tried to install on my fedora core 2, the famous ATI driver (which I couldn't since it uses Xorg and not Xfree86, and I'm not skilled enough to get it to work in that case).
I lost the full screen mode. and the -zoom option gets it to slow motion.
I tried to compile 2.6.6, from kernel.org. It compiled fine, but when I boot on it, it freezes at the network detection.

Anyway, I couldn't figure out what I did to loose a feature I had, and moreover, what I should do to get it back !!!!

Then I thought of the repository. Was I using the same as my first go? .... I read that some are good, some are less good... (Is there any procedures to check all of them, as a whole, which in the future won't matter where we download updates from?)

I investigated that possibility. Freshmeat, Newrpms, ayo, fedora.us..... They all fail. But guess what: On dag.wieers.com, they hold a version of mplayer which doesn't go in slow motion, and gets full screen, without black edges.

Adding too many repositories to the source.list file from apt isn't so good. I keep apt since some servers don't work fine with yum (and I removed up2date). But I read somewhere that yum was more appropriate.

So here is my advise. That's what I did the get rid of those black edges: Comment out for a while your repositories in /etc/apt/source.list
and add that:
### Dag Apt Repository for Red Hat Fedore Core 2
rpm http://apt.sw.be fedora/2/en/i386 dag
#rpm-src http://apt.sw.be fedora/2/en/i386 dag

$rpm -qa | grep mplayer, to check if you have an mplayer installed. In that case, either remove it with apt, and the 'rpm -e' command

refresh the package lists, and install mplayer. (Of course, it'll ask you to install the skins as well)

I worked anew for me. No slow motion in full screen mode, and no black edges.

Oops, I forgot you have a slackware.
Try to find to good lines to add to source.list for your distribution...

yeah i got it working now, i just changed the video driver in my x11 config to voodoo3 and not vesa, i thought though cause i played it in cmd line and the same problem occured that it cant be a problem with x11 config video driver but yup that fixed it ;)

I have the same problem and I didn't buy a seperate video card. I have the one that came with my intel mother board. What should I do?
