mplayer errors

I compiled mplayer and it works fine on redhat. I am getting these problems when I compiled it for slackware. When I use gmplayer and want to watch a video(it works fine for audio) I get this error in the gui display "Error opening/ initiallizing the selcted video_out (-vo) device"
I get this error in the command line display
---------------------------------------
AUDIO: 16000 Hz, 2 ch, 16 bit (0x10), ratio: 2000->64000 (16.0 kbit)
Selected audio codec: [wmadmo] afm:dmo (Windows Media Audio DMO)
==========================================================================
open: Permission denied
vo_mga: Couldn't open /dev/mga_vid
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.
----------------------------------------

I should have done a serch on this error before asking, I just did and found lots of info. Sometimes I forget to try the search first. you guys all have a nice day

did you try running it as root? Looks like you have to give permission to the video buffer for all users... somehow . Try and see if runs well as root (su only), if does we find a work around for it

I got it working, I needed to change the video out drivers. The default driver in my slackware install of mplayer would not work.

I did not have that unusable driver in my redhat install, so that is why I had no problem playing videos with it.

ahh feels good when somthing works!
