mplayer CVS pukes and dies
 

Hello all,

I've got SuSE 8.2 on a Compaq nx9005 lappy. ATI Radeon IGP 320 video card (according to the spec sheet - don't know how to check this otherwise) and I've had mplayer 0.91 running fine for a few weeks.

I wanted to capture an rtsp stream for a friend, so installed live.com support and finally got it to recompile. Great!

But after failing to pull down the desired file (got a message about there being no "fd" for the dump) I was told in the mplayer channed on FreeNode that I would need to get the new CVS as RealAudio streams don't work well without it.

So....

I got that, configured, made, and installed it, but now it won't play anything. It says:

vo: X11 running at 1024x768 with depth 16 and 16 bpp (":0.0 => local display)
It seems there is no Xvideo support for your video card available.

Requested video codec family [ffodivx] (vfm=ffmpeg) not available (enable it at compilation)

and it gives the same lines for xvid, odivx, divx4 and ends with the message:

Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x44495658

I looked in Yast -> video card and it has it as a VESA card (I looked under ATI RADEON and there are a variety of options, but nothing that matches my spec sheet and I'm not confident in winging it as I'm afraid I might fry something).

I've only had this laptop about a month (bought brand new from HP), so am nervous about monkeying around with settings I don't understand.

Thing is, if I uninstall the CVS and reconfigure and make and install the old version, it plays great right off the bat.

Can anyone help? I'd really like to be able to pull down some streams of radio programs and interviews from the web.

I just downloaded and installed MPlayer v1.0pre1 and it seems to play fine - just don't have an internet connection for my Linux machine here at work, so will have to try the streaming stuff when I get home.

Any and all suggestions and advice welcome.

Looks like the v1.0pre1 version took care of things.
