mplayer build drivers?

I am have some problems(listed at the bottom) with mplayer that was built using portage. I would like to build it myself to see if I can get better results. The following is from the README
Code:
A quick and incomplete list of recommendations:
- ATI cards: Get the GATOS drivers for X11/Xv or use VIDIX.
- Matrox G200/G4x0/G550: Compile and use mga_vid for Linux, on BSD use VIDIX.
- 3dfx Voodoo3/Banshee: Get XFree86 4.2.0+ for Xv or use the tdfxfb driver.
- nVidia cards: Get the X11 driver from www.nvidia.com for Xv support.
- NeoMagic cards: Get an Xv capable driver from our homepage as described in
  DOCS/HTML/en/devices.html#video-dev.
I am using an nvidia card. What do they mean by get the X11 drivers from nvidia.com? Are they taliking about the nvidia drivers that you need for accelerated graphics, or some other drivers?

currently if I use the xv driver I have a blue line along the top and side of my television. If I use the x11 driver the blue line is gone but my cpu is maxed at 100%(celeron-2.0), sometimes it plays nice other times it is choppy. Any suggestions or help would be nice

You can try SDL video output or directfb one... The problem is that you'll probably have to install SDL or DirectFB

Yes you need to install directfb or SDL and then recompile mplayer. During config step it should detect that you have SDL or directfb and so compile the video output driver... If it doesn't detect them, try to pass the following option to your ./configure:
--with-sdl-config=PATH path to sdl*-config (e.g. /opt/bin/sdl-config)
--enable-sdl
--enable-directfb
You can find directfb at http://www.directfb.org/ and SDL at http://www.libsdl.org/index.php
Note that directfb uses framebuffer so you may need to recompile your kernel to enable framebuffer
