Mplayer Aspect Ratio

I have mplayer compiled and working, but it is playing my widescreen movies in a rather small square box. I have the gui installed and changing the aspect ratio does nothing. Any suggestions?

try to run mplayer from a console and add -fs at the end. If starts in fullscreen, press f to return to a normal screen.

Hope it helps

Well, that does make it run full screen, but it does not change the size of the box the movie plays in.

mmmmmmm, ok, i have misunderstood the problem
Probably you're using x11 drivers, try it again with "-vo xv" should work. If not, get the latest drivers for your card that supports xv.

Hope it helps

You're right, I am using the x11 drivers. My card is pretty old, a vodoo3, I would think that the drivers that came with slack 9.1 are the most current. Unless they are some generic?

vodoo 3.....that's a long time ago....I think you won't find any other drivers....but a way to "solve" the problem of the small picture is to play with the "-zoom" option combined with "-aspect 4:3, 16:9" should work pretty well in fullscreen.

Try also to run "mplayer -vo help" to see wich drivers voddo support.

Well, I used to have a monster fusion, even older, and it played fine.
