mplayer annoyances
 

Hello all...

I recently upgraded to MPlayer 0.92.1 and have had a few problems....

The menu has switched from right-click to middle-click (not really a problem) but there is no longer a way to play a DVD from this menu. I have to open it from the command line, which is bunk because there is no longer a way to access a menu so that I may switch full screen, adjust volume etc.... plus, when I am in fullscreen (which I have to either express at the command line, or with a setting in mplayer.conf) there is no way to close the player, I have to open a new terminal, login, then manually kill it using the pid number.

Am I missing something here...the version that I upgraded from worked just fine, and I think if there is no way to get around these problems I may have to switch back.

If anyone has any insight it would be appreciated. The biggest help would be how to open a DVD from the GUI.

The trick is to actually install mplayer correctly with Dvd and Menu playback options enabled. If you did it from source. You did it wrong, read the readme's and options and try again. If you did it from an RPM file, you got a crappy one, go find one that actually has the options turned on and install it.

IN fact. Why are you using 0.92.1? Go with the 1.0 pre whatever already!

Hmm, maybe I should have mentioned but I emerge -u'd it from gentoo. My use flags do include dvd. In fact they are exactly the same as the USE flags that built the earlier version which had the features I'm looking for.

On one good note I found how to create the key bindings to control it when started from the command line ie: input.conf
