Did you ./configure --enable-gui or did you install it as a package?

Ogledbyoldmen 11-20-2003 04:55 PM

no when i install the rpms it doesnt make a directory so i dont know where to compile it, it says it did it with: Compiled with Runtime CPU Detection - WARNING - this is not optimal!
To get best performance, recompile MPlayer with --disable-runtime-cpudetection

Ogledbyoldmen 11-20-2003 05:16 PM

oh well obviously i just installed it as a package, any help here?

quatsch 11-20-2003 06:57 PM

can you start the mplayer gui with
gmplayer
?

Glock Shooter 11-20-2003 07:00 PM

My suggestion is to then remove any and all mplayer related packages, and get apt-get.

theparadigm 11-20-2003 07:12 PM

use apt-get to install something like gxine or xine with your mplayer packages
i think gxine/xine uses mplayer at the backend?

ok i have apt, i have synaptic. now i when rpm -e mplayer it just goes to the next line int the terminal...nothing happens not even [root@pppa32-city-1r7114 drof]# comes up.....im confused

Ogledbyoldmen 11-21-2003 02:03 PM

ok im an idiot i just realized how to get them off with synaptic. Clean slate....how should i install mplayer now?

Glock Shooter 11-21-2003 02:20 PM

First make sure an remove any packages you installed when you first tried to install mplayer. Then from the comand line, do
#apt-get install mplayer

Ogledbyoldmen 11-21-2003 03:01 PM

when i do that nothing happens....

[drof@pppa32-city-1r7114 drof]$ #apt-get install mplayer
[drof@pppa32-city-1r7114 drof]$ ****( THIS LINE IS BLANK)*******

can i do it from synaptic?

just download the source and compile it, its way easier than installing from rpms and it installs nearly everything u need. if u are using a unsupported compiler just tell it to ignore the compiler and walla u good to go

Ogledbyoldmen 11-21-2003 04:01 PM

ok im all compiled, and installed, now where does teh gui and fonts go?

Bensoft Kill MS 11-21-2003 04:19 PM

I downloaded all the rpms I needed, then just did rpm -ivh *.rpm (making a special directory for it to put all the downloads in; really easy that way). I got the gui to work that way, so if nothing else works try getting the rpms. (are you using the source?) What rpms?

Ogledbyoldmen 11-21-2003 04:22 PM

using the source, i did MPlayer-1.0pre2.tar.bz2 and compiled it, it runs, and i have downlaoded the AlienMind-1.1.tar.bz2 skin with the font....i beleive i need the codecs, and then i need to know where wo put the skins...im not sure you tell me
