"MPlayer - because xine is naff..!"

what system are you using? try the various optinos like -framedrop and -ni (see manpage) also make sure you have a good video output in use like -vo xv instead of -vo x11. also ensure DMA is turned on on your DVD drive using hdparm.

howdy-i still cannot play mplayer. i have enabled dma on my dvd drive, which took out the jerkiness i was having . also, my video drivers i am using are xv. i have tryed all 3 , but have xv installed. also have enabled double buffering and frame dropping.

using suse 8.1

one thing that i believe may be causing the problem , is that i downloaded nvidia glx-1 and nvidia kernel, this has not been tested on suse 8.1, maybe this is the problem?
the software has enabled 3d acceleration, but maybe a operational problem i am now having? any ideas?

Yeh try disabling the nvidia drivers and see what happens...or do you require them to play dvd's?

sorry i'm not quite sure, just trying to help...

Reply to 'mplayer problems'

This is a reply to your other thread...

Try playing around with all the options...it might not be the best advice...but if you wanna learn you have to hunt down your asnwer...try switching things on and off and see the effects...

or even easier..someone can tell you what to do

But yeh....hehe

so even when playing with this command line, it still gives jerky video, and all around poor quality:
mplayer -vo xv -framedrop -dvd 1

? (also to find and try more vo's do: mplayer -vo help and give each one a try)

What are you system specs?

Cool

yeh well acid, like you said it was slightly different and he could've just asked it in this thread, and if i replied in the other thread other people would've replied, when you could've just kept it to this thread and ronss could've deleted the other one....anyway sorry
