How to run mplayer gui interface... I can run it in the konsole... when I type mplayer in the proper directory... how do I get it to open into a gui... I double click the executable in the folder but it just thinks and nothing happens.

You've to call it from a console with gmplayer. That's is assuming that you've compiled it with gui support and followed all instructions correctly

Got it working... but what stinks is that I go to play a DVD in it, and the DVD drive spins up like it's going to play and Mplayer just kind of freezes and won't let me close it or stop the dvd, and just displays a black screen... what's up with that...

Maybe you are missing codecs or libraries... I am not sure. Take a look at the console and see if it returns any error messages. If does not, start the dvd via command line:

mplayer -dvd <track number>

and see how it goes . Report us any error messages please

try only:

mplayer -dvd 1

you don't need to write track, the number only will do

I suggest changing versions to mplayer pre3, but at least for the versions I've used, your syntax is wrong, and that appears to be what the output is saying.

Use "mplayer dvd://1" to play title 1 (which is usually the main title). The old deprecated equivalent, I think, is mplayer -dvd 1".

It is working... It is just taking FOREVER to start playing.... it took a while for the "cache fill" to load up. I guess the GUI was working I just didn't wait long enough.... I wonder why it is taking so long?

hmmmm.... It could be your system processor, graphics drivers, amount of ram, dvd player speed . There could be a lot of reasons, but it's great it's working for ya . Does it play media files normally? How is your DVD playback? Smooth or slow/lag?.

Now I've no idea . Maybe you'd start installing this package:

libdvdread

Try also playing another DVD. Maybe the one you are trying to run is encrypted(?)

libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.

You need css support (e.g. libdvdcss2)
