find your mplayer binary then:

# ldd /path/to/mplayer

See what it's missing and try to install/find it

edit /etc/ld.so.conf and append that path at the end, save and then run:

# ldconfig

that'll refresh the library database dependancy file and *if* it fixed your dependancy issue you should be able to run mplayer fine.

one more question-ldd is like a log file of what libraries the app tries to open?

nah, ldd can simply see what library a binary file is executed against.
