mp3 playback skips resier or too low priorty

Hi,

i using suse 10 mp3 playback skips, even when not doing anything at all.

Amarok crashes all the time, freezes, title bar disppears,etc...

xmms sound sucks high distortion rate, hissing, not as high levels of sound.

What is the diff between alsa, oss, jack,etc... which one is the best. Does it matter between distros which one you use.

Realplayer just sucks period, the sound is garbage.

How do I tell is it is configured properly. I have an intel 865 chipset.

Is it that the mp3s are on a reiser fs? I read an article for mldonkey that said the mp3 playback will skip if you have them on reiser.

Or do I not have a high enough priorty, and is priorty for sound or the app that runs it?

Or could it be that dma is off?
