Unhappy mp3's and mpeg's

Hello all,
I've been using linux rh9 for a little more than a month now, and i like it a lot. There's only a few things that confuse the hell out of me. I'll only go into one of them here, as the others dont bother me all that much yet. My big problem is the fact that i cant play mp3s or mpegs. I've tried a few different things and cant get it to work. I'm using xmms and freeamp, neither of which can do any good for me, seeing as how they wont play anything.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi prettyconfused, MasterC says hi
anyway, get the mpg plugin for RH from www.xmms.org
actually, it should be: MasterC says "Welcome to LQ", but it has come under my attention that he's not gone untill wednesday, so you can still ignore this. With a bit of luck he'll tell you himself

To play mpgs try using Xine since that is easy to install.

If you want the best mpeg player use Mplayer. It'll take some time to compile and configure that puppy correctly if you don't read EVERYTHING.

He can't play mp3's in RedHat while using XMMS, AFAIK he only needs the mpg plugin from xmms.org as mentioned in my first post.

not that I know of, it was just in reply to kazuni's post, he doesn't need to download xmms, 'cause he's using it already

as metioned by Martine, for mpegs, use Xine or Mplayer.
