MozillaFirebird/firefox does not open ~ permissions?
Hey I installed MozillaFirebird awhile baack - it used to work - then it started just 'not opening' - made sure everything is good with the command etc - good.
Root can open it but users cannot.
Sounds like a permissions issue. I tried installing it as user and as root with the same result.
Changed the permissions to 755 then 777 - same.
Even tried installing to the /usr/local directory to bypass any default permissions issues with my /home and /storage.
An easy test of this would be to try to rename the .phoenix directory in your home directory and start firefox up to recreate a profile with default settings.
You say you installed firebird a while back ... By any chance have you installed the new firefox but kept your old profile? I did this and couldn't start the app. If I remember right it was because the old extensions are incompatible - you have to download them again for the new firefox. I deleted my old profile and everything was fine.
Explain how you are trying to open it. Are you using the command line? What are you typing. When it doesn't open what does it do? Just sit there doing nothing? Throw and error?
I installed MozilaFirebird to /opt. I can type /opt/MozillaFirebird/Mozillafirebird to open it.
mctavish ~ I've already checked.
I have even gone to the length of deleting the install, redownloading [several times] ~ there still no joy.
Like I said - root works so it may be something wierd with permissions.

mctavish~ I checked in .phoenix and I will give it a shot at renaming it and test in gui tonight.
[edit]
Actually this really makes sense...I bet it will fix it. It's the only logical thing that it would be as I never deleted it...I will let you know.
mctavish~
Renaming the .phoenix profile worked. I was trying to affero you when I got this message so I cancelled for now ~ vault.affero.net security certificate that encrypts data during transmission has expired on 2/11/2004. I presume they will get the security cerfiticate working again soon so I will try again later. If you hear anything about it meantime please let me know.
