mozilla problem, can't use keyboard
 

i was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem, i didn't really c anything related when i did a search...... sometimes mozilla or firebird does not respond to my keyboard, usually after a popup (ie i do a find.) i won't be able to type in the location bar or do ctrl-n for new window or anything like that afterwards. usually if i wait a little or go to a different window and come back, it starts responding again. it can get a bit annoying. anyone have any ideas?

also, anyway to get rid of profiles, so that i can start multiple mozillas without it asking me to use a different profile? thanks

Do you mean the browser simply hangs? Like it seems to lock up but then it eventually comes back?

For viewing multiple pages, try using another tab - Ctrl+T, or File->New->Navigator Tab. This is much more useful than multiple Mozillas. If you must have a separate viewing window, use Ctrl+N, or File->New->Navigator Window

it doesn't completey freeze, i can still access the menus and such and browse via the mouse. however it takes a while for moilla to start responding to the keyboard again. say i type in an address in the location bar and i receive a message saying connection was refused or does not exist, afterwards i will not b able to use my keyboard. even when i go to tools-->options sometimes. usually it comes back eventually..........

as for multiple windows, sometimes im working on one workspace and i have mozilla open on another, i will have to return to the original workspace, open a new mozilla window, and send it to my current workspace. id rather just hit my key command and have mozilla open up rather than ask me to choose a different profile. thanks guys

For what it's worth, I have the exact same problem, with the twist that sometimes the mouse won't have any effect in form fields (no cursor even appears). I have to terminate Mozilla and restart it and things work again for a while. This never happened till Mozilla 1.3. I would attempt to report a bug but the bug-reporting at mozilla.org is so complex and requires so much technical background (as well as details I don't even possess) that it's useless for me.

it's always comforting to kno ur not alone....... thanks for letting me tho. outta all the linux users i kno personally im the only only one who has this problem so i was beginning to think i was retard. it's annoying as hell tho

I'll drink to that! Sometimes I forget what I was trying to do, because I get distracted by (1) Mozilla stopping working, and (2) having to restart it.

I also use the "Firebird" development version of Mozilla that will be the basis, eventually, for the next Mozilla release. I don't have this problem with the Firebird releases, which leads me to think it's something in Mozilla 1.3 that's wrong.

Its happened to me before as well. It seems that it only happens when a plugin is loaded. Usually the flash plugin can cause a serious hang sometimes.

Is this the case with you guys as well?

I just checked; ran a Flash animation from a website and then tested the mouse and keyboard and they both still function in Mozilla (where I'm writing this).

I avoided installing Flash in the Firebird browser because I'd read there was a serious problem with crashes in Firebird related to Flash. (Also, I didn't want a second installation of it on my hard drive!)

But Flash doesn't seem to be the problem in my case, with Mozilla 1.3.

Well it seems to happen at random and in my experience its only on sites that require some sort of plugin. It could just be my issue though. Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents...(where is the cents symbol on the keyboard?)

I guess it still could be BECAUSE a given site requires a plug-in; maybe mousing over the area that wants the plugin causes a problem.

Re: cents symbol--I've wondered the same thing. I guess any keyboard with a "Windows" key wouldn't have something as paltry as a cents symbol, though.

I've had the same problem as listed above, I can't type in the address field or anything.

Anyway, I found some info that cleared it up.

Go to preferences and disable autocompletion, I think it's a bug in that portion of the program. I disabled the menu and search drop-down for while your typing, and haven't experienced the problem since...

Thanks! I'm going to try it right now. I'd been thinking about disabling auto-completion anyhow, since it just annoys me (I'm a fast typist). Also, in case anybody wants to try Firebird, be advised that accepting an auto-completion suggestion in Firebird will cause the browser to crash--every time, I think. I believe it's a known issue. Saved me some money once: I was about to order something I didn't need, accepted my own email address for filling in the form, and the browser just vanished! I never got around to accessing the site again...

Waah! That didn't work. I disabled everything imaginable and then I looked at some chairs at the Office Depot site (which entailed using forms to make my search selections), and then the mouse wouldn't get me into the address field of Mozilla.

Back to the proverbial drawing board.

Well, this helped my problem with losing keyboard ability, etc... I haven't had the mouse problem since either, but it may pop up again. Who knows, eh?
