Mozilla/Mplayer trouble in RH9

I can't seam to get ANY movies to play when I click on the links in mozilla. I have the mplayer plugin installed for mozilla. The plugins page under the help tab even says so! I just today tried installing a FULL version of standalone mplayer to see if that was needed because the instructions for the plugin said NOTHING about this. This didn't help though. Sometimes when I click the movie file link it just opens another browser and displays the contents of the file, very annoying. Other times it opens a player window and says it's "Now loading... " or something similar. Also about the times it opens contents, why would it do this? I looked ALL throughout the prefernces and help sections both in the help menu and within the mplayer homepage. I just don't understand it.

Well, you are discovering that Mplayer isn't a well polished product. I spent many hours trying to understand the spaghetti like assembly of Mplayer, and eventually got it "working." I too installed the mplayer-plugin and got the same "Now loading..." blank screen. You will only be able to play SOME types of streaming media, and since the people at Microsoft keep changing the codecs, and now patent controlling them, it will be even harder to find codecs that Mplayer will be able to use. Can you get ANY video out of Mplayer? Is it just a specific website?

I tried the rpm and compiled from source. The rpm version from freshrpms.net worked as good as the compiled version that I did.
