mozilla installs

i want to update mozilla - i have 1.2.1 and have the tar.gz for 1.6.0 i read the install file and it says

cvs co -f mozilla/client.mk
cd mozilla
gmake -f client.mk

then exe mozilla by

./mozilla

i have no idea what the 1st and 3rd lines mean - could someone help? do i need to delete mozilla first, if so how?

cheers
