Mozilla fonts

Here's a strange one - I love the font rendering in the version of Mozilla that shipped with my Publisher's copy of Linux Red Hat 9.0 (Mozilla version 1.2.1). I downloaded and installed Mozilla version 1.5 today and even though the the settings under Appearance - Fonts are the same, the fonts aren't nicely smoothed around the edges like they are in 1.2.1; rather, they have sort of a rough, pixelled appearance to their edges. Under the preferences in 1.2.1, I notice that "system default" is set for the font type, while under the preferences of 1.5 I see a bunch of different fonts listed. Any ideas on how I can get the same fonts back? I really love the appearance of 1.2.1's font rendering.

I think it has to do with whether or not Mozilla was compiled with XFT font support. You may be able to download an XFT-enabled build (check out the releases page and look for the ones that say "XFT"). Or, if that doesn't work, you may be able to compile it from source with XFT enabled, though that's quite a bit more of a pain :)

That was exactly the ticket. I found a build of Firebird that is just perfect. Thanks again!
