Maybe this could be it too

Hi,

I have just found a thread on the mandrake-newbie list that gave details on tunning firefox. The interesting thing about the article is that I have found that ad.doubleclick had changed a user config entry using about:config i found that network.dns.ipv4OnlyDomains was set to ad.doubleclick. I set this to true instead and I have no longer got this problem or the related dns problems I was suffering.

Real pain in the arse this one.

My solution

I actually had the same problem with both Firefox and Konqueror on my Gentoo machine. E.g. ebay worked on my XP boxes but not on Linux. My systems are connected via a hardware firewall / router (Sonicwall) to the internet.

What worked for me is to set the mtu size down to 1492 (was 1500 previously):

# ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492

To permanently activate this setting I changed the /etc/conf.d/net entry for eth0:

iface_eth0="192.168.2.75 broadcast 192.168.2.255 netmask 255.255.255.0 mtu 1492"

Cheers,
CoolTide
