mozilla firebird crashing on startup

I switched to KDE recently, and now mozilla crashes when I start it. I am not certain that KDE was the cause. I have switched back to GNOME now, and moz still crashes when I start. I'm using redhat 9 and mozilla 1.4b.

When I start it from a console, I don't get any error messages, though if I uncomment the line "set -x" in the startup script, I can see startup messages. The last message displayed is:

+ exec ./run-mozilla.sh ./MozillaFirebird-bin

which seems healthy to me.

Any ideas on how to start figuring out what's going wrong?
