Mozilla crashes when opening mp3 / avi etc etc

Hi there...

I used to be able to view movies and listen to mp3s using the mplayer plug-in for the Mozilla browser but now, for some reason, when I follow a link to an mp3 file or a video file - mozilla just closes down/crashes. The mail client and the browser just shutdown and dissapear from existance.

I've tried re-installing mozilla and the mplayer plugin... to no avail though.

Any ideas/solutions appreciated. Thanks.

Same problem here.
Look like a lot of people are having it:

I am using Fedora Core 1 and Mozilla 1.6.

you guys may need the appropriate libraries for decoding displaying mpeg or avi,
I understand that is what the plugin is for, but the plugin may use a standard libraru to do this coding conversion, and the plugin simply lets mozilla format and display it properly from within the browser.

Its a shot in the dark but it may be the case.

I wish it was that simple... but unfortunately isn't the case. The codecs / libs come with mplayer. I never used to have this problem (using the same version of mozilla) which is why I think it has something to do with either mplayer or it's browser plugin.

My browser would crash when viewing pages with sound because i did't have alsa-libs installed. You might want to try installing them to see what happens. Do you have any errors in the terminal after it crashes?
