mozilla composer and link paths

Mozilla composer is getting to be about as annoying as netscape composer was under windows, but this time it is partially (if not completely) my fault.

I am using Mozilla composer to edit local HTML files that I am serving via apache. I am editing them directly from the /var/www/html directory.

When I save the files, any page source for links or images gets changed to show the absolute path (no matter what).

For example, I use a background image that is in /var/www/html/Graphics for a web page that is in /var/www/html/, so I use the path /Graphics/mybackground.jpg and save the HTML file. The url gets changed to file:////var/www/html/Graphics/mybackground.jpg and then I have to edit the file in something like kwrite to remove the extra path stuff.

I believe this is related to the fact that I am editing a local file that is on the server, but I need a fix. The only workaround I can find would be to edit the files locally in another dir (like my home dir) and then actually publish them via FTP from my computer to itself. I want to avoid this because that would make me have duplicates of any files that are served as web content.

Anyone know a good workaround?
