Mozilla and Languages

I've got a slight problem.

Mozilla won't display Japanese text, whether it's input or output. I can tell it accepts it because I typed in a search in Japanese and the search results (because I typed in something I knew was written in English) came up approprately.

I'm convinced now that it is just the displaying of Japanese text that is having a problem. OpenOffice works perfectly with the display of Japanese text so I know it isn't the input method either.

Anyone have ideas as to what could be the problem and how it can be solved?

for displaying japanese, check that the appropriate character coding is selected under view->character coding. Normally, Auto-detect does fine but sometines you have to do it automatically.

for input, you have to have japanese input enabled for the system. you need FreeWnn and Kinput2. Depending on your locale settings, you'll have to change env variables for mozilla a little bit too.

The character selection works fine (as far as I can gather), it just doesn't display it properly. Just boxes with random numbers in them. I'm wondering about why Character display isn't working...

what about the fonts? In the preferences, you can choose which fonts to use for which language. It could be that you have selected a non-japanese font-set. Other than this, nothing comes to mind.
