Mozilla 1.6 Firefox 0.8 crash when accessing form controls.

I realize very similar problems have been posted; however, I decided to start a new thread specifically suited to my issue.

The problem is exactly as stated in the subject. Mozilla 1.6 and Firefox 0.8 (basically every mozilla based browser) crash whenever I try to use form controls on certain websites. For example, when I go to linuxpackages.net and try to select the first letter of the package I'm looking for from the dropdown list box, the browser silently crashes. Other websites with form controls, like Google, work just fine. I've tried every bit of advice I could find around here, but none work.

I've tried starting the browser from the cmd line. I've tried running it through strace. I've tried disabling Java and Javascript. I've tried reinstalling. I've tried different versions. I've tried different sources of Slackware compatible packages. I've tried adding loopback support to iptables. Nothing works.

BTW, I'm running Slackware 9.1 -- updated to current via swaret -- and Dropline Gnome 2.6, also current. Yes, I know, current isn't supposed to be stable, but I'd like to investigate this issue nonetheless.

I've been trying to narrow the problems down to a specific area. So far, it seems that the only browsers that are affected are the ones based on mozilla and ones using GTK (correct me if I'm wrong there, but I'm pretty sure they are built from GTK). When I use Konqueror, all websites work just fine, no problems.

I imagine there's some obscure lib file I need, or perhaps a config file line that needs to be commented out or something. That's usually the way it goes.

I greatly appreciate any help I can get!

I got the same prob with FIREFOX 0.9.1 on Slack 10 with a clean install. Tried to compile from source, but got a bunch of errors on compilation. Mozilla 1.7 seems to be working OK though. If anyone has any insight, would be greatly apreciated.

hi;

im also having the same problem, though it is just not limited to form controlls. Often when i view media, such as movies, or goto print the page im looking at mozilla silently crashes. Other times it doesnt.

Anyone got any ideas or solutions? Thanks!
