nope it isn't it's your default kernel file.

If you type "cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzimage /boot/vmlinuz", the file boot/vmlinuz will be overwritten by the bzImage file contents.

instead of overwriting vmlinuz (unless you want to restore your already broken kernel off course), I'd prefer to create another file in there, for example /boot/kernel-2.4.22-may03. Then I create a new image= section in lilo.conf, and update the MBR by running lilo.

One way would be 'pkgtool>setup>install kernel'. Another way would be to just mount the disk, cd, and cp. I'm not sure if I understand your question, but /boot is the directory and 'vmlinuz' or 'vmlinuz-foobar' or whatever it may be called would be the file that goes in the /boot directory.
