Mozilla 1.4 HTTPS SSL Tunnel Proxy Problem

Ok this problem is pretty specific. And I am not sure if I am missing something pretty
obvious. I have looked around the internet and thought I would throw it out here.

Ok I am running Mozilla 1.4, but this problem happens with 1.3, and the latest Firebird.

I do not have this problem with IE or Mozilla 1.2
This problem also happens in both Windows and Linux.

ok now here is the deal.
I would like to tunnel through a firewall at work using ssh.
To access company private webpages and resources, including
online time reporting. This required the forwarding of certain ports.
80, 443 and 21. As well as 110, and 25.

Now the problem comes with https over a proxy. I have no problem normally with https
when using it without a proxy. Using the same settings, minus the proxy settings,
I can access any https site without a problem. When I put the proxy settings
back on to tunnel into the office network. I cannot access any https sites.
However I have no problem tunnelling with any other http sites, ftp, pop or smtp.

Now if I use Mozilla 1.2 or IE, I can tunnel into https sites no problem. So I know the tunnel
works. And that I am tunnelling correctly into https. It just doesn't seem to work
correctly when I use Mozilla 1.4.

Is there something I am missing.
Does anyone have an idea what a problem might be? If someone has an idea, and has more
questions, i'll try to answer.

Thanks in advance to anyone that might have an idea.
