moving directories with FTP

How do you move an entire directory with FTP??? I know how to move individual files but I can't get directories to move recursively like you can with scp with an -r flag; I tried using scp like that to move the files to the place I'm trying to move them to but the cluster I'm trying to put my files on doesn't recongnize scp so I have to use some sort of ftp command.

Create a tarball of your directory structure and files, then ftp the tarball.

Another option would be to use rsync.

I'm assuming from your description that you want to upload an entire directory from your local computer to a remote one. Not move a directory which is already on the remote computer.

It depends on your FTP client. For example, in ncftp the command would be 'put -R directory'.

Enjoy!
