Moving a File...

Hi

Ive managed to get Slackware 10 installed, and working with my LAN card Couldnt get it to work with the Onboard lan, so im using a PCMCIA card.

When i've got it all set up, it will be running IRCd and a couple of eggdrop bots. I've installed the first eggdrop, but i need to get the conf file for it into the folder i've created it on the linux machine.

How can i get a file there, when the file i have is on a windows machine? Also, the Linux machine doesnt have a floppy drive

ok, sorry

Windows XP - 192.168.1.2 - NTFS
Linux (Slackware 10, 2.4.26) - 192.168.1.3 - ReiserFS

Two seperate machines, but part of the same LAN.

hi scott, there are different ways:
1) use SAMBA (you can mount a Windows-share directly from linux-shell), look at smbmount!
2) use NFS
3) use a FTP-Client, when a FTP-Server is running on your linux
...

perhaps the easiest way for you is using a ssh-client like putty to transfer the file(s) from one machine to the other.

hope this helps

Or, if you don't want to use the network, you can just drop it onto a floppy(You said conf file, so i'm assuming it'll fit).

make a folder on the xp box and right click and share it... install samba client and smb4k ... i think the easiest... and mount folder... then in konqueror go to the mount point (usually /home/you/smb4k/machine_name/ and split the konqueror window (Window... split left/right) and get the second window to where u want the file... drag and drop

hope thats been helpfull... (do it as root or sudo)

Wow, thanks for all that. So many ways to get a file across

I decided on the FTP router, seemed to be the easiest!! Thanks again
